Min Yong Hong ENG 101 Shelley Fischer 19 April 2011 Disadvantages vs. Advantages of the Media Nowadays, television has been blamed for depriving teens of time for other valuable activities. However, media can also be a detriment to teenagers in its ability to inspire imprudent actions and behavior. It is true that some violent movies bring about copycat crimes. Offensive language on the internet among teenagers is a social issue recently. Therefore, some people say that the media has more negative effects than positive effect on the way people behave, particularly when young. However, the ability to transmit data on screen is one of greatest achievements of technology obtained in the past century, and it is continuing to grow and evolve each day. There are many benefits to broadcast media that could be used in all areas, whether social, political, economic, or recreational. People can not only obtain necessary information effectively on the internet, but they can also publish information and make a difference through their connection to others. The land dispute between my country, Korea, and Japan serves as an example. Japan has claimed ownership of a small island in my country over the last few years. To make the Japanese case, their officials have distorted the history involving two nations. Disappointingly, the South Korean government has insisted on a no-response policy against Japan’s desire to appropriate this island. Ultimately it was an online community that made every effort to make sure that South Korea retained ownership of the island. An online gathering was organized by patriotic college students from across the nation. They brought together historical facts and relevant information in an aim to prove which territory the islet is in. The young nationals were able to get exactly what they wanted from the internet; information and collaboration.
