In the past, we could not use computers, we could not text, and we did not have more choices to watch on television because technology was not that advanced as now. Getting to know complex things and writing lengthy essays on paper with pencil was hard back then. Technology provides “new literacies” where language and technology come together (Simpson). Now we can use computers that will make it easier for us to do our homework. Has technology taken over the way we think, speak, and write? Well, technology has played an important role to us as it keeps advancing. As people are attending schools every day, technology has been a positive effect on education. One way that technology has been a positive effect for students is that education has been a lot easier to find out additional information with various websites. As research indicates, “The Web now allows millions of already well-read scholars to connect to one another and work more effectively” (Futurist). This information sharing has made the world seem smaller as accessibility is enhanced. Also, “research [no longer] requires[s] days in the stack or periodical rooms of libraries but can now be done in minutes by ‘googling’” (Carr). Having the internet makes a big difference in the world, making everything speedy. Another reason why technology is a positive impact on education is because the technology we have now makes everything faster to communicate because before, people had to physically meet together to have a conversation. Texting and using computers have simplified education because “the internet’s chaotic and varied digital culture is very much a product of the fact that people who came by their reading, thinking, and research skills during the middle of the last century are now listening, arguing, debating, and learning as never before” (Futurist).
