There are no ethics involved in businesses polluting in third world countries. Despite the improvements in environmental protection. ‘Third World’ is the term used to describe the underdeveloped and poorer countries in the world which are often times faced with environmental and other troubles. Is it ‘ok’ then to dump toxic materials and hazardous waste in these regions? Most people would think that is not a good idea, but the reality is that corporate greed, devaluation of human life and the natural environment, economic oppression and other issues allow the systematic destruction of people and sacred lands. In most poor countries, creating and/or enforcing environmental regulations would be disastrous. It would mean, choosing between having a clean environment and buying food, and for a poor country, the answer, though not simple, is obvious. Rich, Western countries often take advantage of the dilemma Third World countries face; dump garbage and hazardous waste and even build plants in those countries that emit dangerous and/or toxic fumes causing even more pollution and health problems. These Western countries also avoid the regulations and restrictions they would face at home, so they go to Third World countries for their cheap labor and absent environmental regulations. There are several reasons why businesses conduct business in a Third World country and disregard standards on pollution control. The lack of environmental policies or regulations in Third World countries allow rich Western businesses to come into that country, build factories, obtain cheap labor and pollute the environment. The bottom line and objective of any business to make money. Businesses that ‘outsource’ to Third World countries are doing just that. Those businesses are maximizing their profits, but at the cost of human health and environmental problems. More developed
