In 2001 Bernard Goldberg released his book “Bias A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News.” In it Goldberg voices his accounts at CBS where he worked as a reporter and a producer for nearly thirty years. He discusses how liberal bias influences the mainstream media. He tells us how he comes to this opinion and how he attempted to bring this to the attention of the network executives. When he comes to the conclusion that no one will listen or do anything about the problem he decides to blow the whistle on his own company and the mainstream press in a Wall Street Journal piece. I chose this topic because I thought that liberal bias in the mainstream media existed but never really did any research.

Two hundred years ago, children were rarely allowed to speak to their elders unless spoken to. However, the relationship between parents and their children has evolved into something much greater since then. One event that changed the father-son relationship forever was the holocaust in the 1940s. The tragic experience forced families to look out for each other and grow closer.
Today, I randomly stumbled across this enlightening essay, called Against School and written by John Taylor Gatto. Basically, this guy taught in public schools in New York City for thirty years, and as the result of his experiences, is now strongly against the way public schools are taught. Not just in the United States, but in the whole world. For a minute, I identified with his loathing of current teaching methods since that's basically the subject of this whole blog. But as I read, I realized that our viewpoints are quite different.

Roosevelt brought about this National Firearms Act to try to eliminate automatic guns and other such weapons like guns in canes or guns that had silencers to name a few (Bureau of ATF). President Obama fought hard to push forth a gun control package that has been all over every media imaginable. Ten days ago the US learned that what the President fought so hard for did not pass.

Kevin Oliveira Professor Madritch Expository Writing Literacy Narrative- Final Draft 30 September 2011 A Leap of Faith School ended and the brisk summer air gave me the feeling of a new beginning. Unfortunately, with every new beginning there is a past that haunts. My friend Jarred betrayed me many times before last summer; that is why I cut ties with him for months. As time went on my true friends began to see the effect he had on their trust, so they too disconnected themselves from him. I hated the sight of him and even his name, but deep down inside I missed our old friendship that had lasted since we were in kindergarten.
