Cultural identity is defined by what a person gains from being a part of a specific society, assumptions that are made by people outside of ones own culture and the sense of ones own culture and what define how you view the world. Everyone who is born and raised on this earth has a cultural identity. With so many people populating our earth, there are hundreds of different identities that exist now, or have existed in the past. Your cultural identity and status in society are defined by many things, including family, religion, food, technology you use, occupation, clothes,, and customs. These aspects of life define people of different cultures as a person.
Media is the biggest influence in society today, as its easy access and easily spreads information to all corners of the Globe. Even though the World is full of different opinions and everyone has their own perception of the World, groups of individuals have usually gathered together, settled down and formed a community, forming compromised opinions, then reproduced, nurtured their offspring to live by these compromised norms and values of their community, which has resulted in a kind of a “common World-view” within a society. By using these strategies, the author is ultimately making appeals to logos; the use of logic, ethos; ethics and building credibility, or pathos; emotions and feelings. These types of appeals are made all the time and not just in movies, or films, but also in music and literature. However, in The Cove specifically, Psihoyos makes appeals to all three, but the majority of the appeals made are to pathos and logos. The use of pathos and logos is essentially what Psihoyos depends on to draw in his audience and make them want to take action.
