A Plea for Our Planet 1. The main idea or theme of A Plea for Our Planet is that we need to start thinking about the future of our planet and start making changes to the way we live in order to save our planet from destruction. 2. The main protagonist in this story for me would be the future generations that should inherit the earth. The reason why I chose them as the protagonist is they are the ones that want change, they want to push this story forward with cleaning up the world and have the older generations man up to their mistakes and do something about it. 3. The antagonist in this story is people who do not wish for change because they don’t want change to happen due to different reasons. She talks about how a poor child who doesn’t have anything would be willing to give away everything and asks the question “why are we who have everything so greedy?” She also reminds them that in kindergarten that they are taught to clean up our mess but haven’t they gone out and done the things that the younger generation is taught. 4. The setting of the story is in Rio with a hopeful atmosphere that the girls giving talks can create change. 5. Some of the norms highlighted by the author as being out of fashion are: “Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying ‘everything’s going to be all right,’ ‘It’s not the end of the world.” “We’re doing the best we can.” Fishing in Vancouver until they found out the fish has cancer. Fighting in wars when even a young child knows that if that money was used to end poverty and finding environmental solutions what a wonderful place it would be. 6. The writer makes the listeners ask themselves questions with lines like these: “I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone. I am afraid to breathe the air because I don't know what chemicals are in it. I used to go
