[Car horns fill the air, shouts from annoyed drivers and harassed passengers, crowded bazaars filled with talkative shoppers] [Moniza Alvi enters henna place] Moniza: Hello, what do you sell here? Unknown Girl: Sell? We no sell here you get henna like tattoos. Moniza: Well, can I get one henna please. Unknown Girl: Of course for three rupees I give you best henna. Moniza: [Pays girl] what is your name? Unknown Girl: Me is Mahavira, means great hero. What is yours? Moniza: That is a beautiful name Mahavira. My name is Moniza. Mahavira: Sit down Moniza. [Moniza sits and Mahavira starts hennaing her hand] Where are you from Moniza? Moniza: I am from Pakistan but my parents are Indian. Mahavira: I am Indian as well, it is good to have someone part Indian here, we have to many foreigners. Moniza: Do you get a lot of people from other countries? Mahavira: Yes that is how I learn English. How do you learn English? Moniza: I moved to England to study there. Mahavira: I heard about England, they say it is nice. Moniza: It is nice but I miss Pakistan. Mahavira: Why? Moniza: Because it is where I grew up and where my family is and I came here because this is where my parents came from. [Moniza gets a faraway look in her eyes] Mahavira: Why do you no go back? Moniza: Because in England I have a job and more opportunities than in India or Pakistan. Mahavira: [Frowning] I wish I could go to England. Moniza: No Mahavira, do you want to live away from your country in a strange place where you don’t know anyone?
