Plastco Packaging Plastco Packaging is a medium sized company that runs produces plastic bags for retail chain stores. The company has several different departments and has three different manufacturing processed for the bags. The first is producing the plastic sheeting which comes as rolls of tubing. The second is printing the retailer’s name on the tubing and lastly passing the rolls of tubing through bag-making machines that cut and seal the tubing into bag lengths. Their current business issues are arising within the third step of these processing phases. The machines in this area require regular servicing for its various parts and often need regular maintenance. Also the company is experiencing 100% turnover among the inspectors/packer and the managers believe that productivity could be much higher. In addition, the bag-making supervisor is seeing an issue with a high level of waste. The inspection of the bags is also leading to inconsistent quality among bags being delivered to customers and the business is receiving complaints. Plastco is current providing 20% indirect compensation with seniority being given more. The problem they are facing is the fact that benefits such as these normally being offered in a human relations strategy should aid in retaining and attracting employees, however this is not happening. Therefore, it is a problem with the combination of indirect benefits being offered to employees. To address this issue they must re examine their current benefits and efficiently implement a benefits package that matches the goals of the organization such as providing high quality bags at an effective rate. The first step in providing this is to determine what the role of indirect pay will be in Plastco. This role consists encouraging certain behaviours from employees such as membership behaviours.
