Bootlegging Movies = Stealing Movie piracy also known as bootlegging movies, defines as the illegal copying of movies for personal or commercial use. This is a major issue that is affecting the film industry financially. It’s easy to find bootlegged copies of movies, once you walk down the city streets of Dallas, we can easily find vendors selling their bootlegged DVD copies of new released movies for half the price of a movie ticket. At the moment the quality of the movies aren’t at its best, but with technological advancements, the quality of these bootleg DVD’s will be in high definition, which also means that movie piracy is on the rise. Movie bootleg should not be legalized, for it will affect movie industries, actors/actresses, and our economy. Movie piracy has a negative effect on our movie industries and studios. Movie corporations are the ones who taking the most heat because of bootlegging movies. While Hollywood and other movie industries make a hundred million dollar budget movies but their profit continue to fall, when people decide to pick up a burned copy or downloaded the movie off some illegal internet site. There are many different forms of bootlegging and it can all affect the movie industry in various ways. The most common is disc piracy, movies in compatible disc for good viewing. A vast majority of bootleg movies are done with handheld camcorder, which is hard to view. There must be a way to stop bootlegged movies, because it’s considered stealing. Legalizing bootlegged movies would undercut the actors and actresses, and makes it harder for them to make salaries. Movie piracy devalues the talents of actors and actresses work for; also movies are being traded as disposable products rather than a being a work of art.
