Introduction: I chose to invite the group into what is deeply personal and at times for me a troubling space, prayer life. Questions, Oh! I should do this, that and the other, when the greatest challenge for me and other I would think is to allow myself be. Come as you are, with no expectations, be yourself Anne and speak from your heart, be PRESENT and trust. Wow! This is a struggle for me and it is also the essence of the gospel story I chose The song I have chosen for an opening and a closing to my prayer is the ‘Deer's Cry' by Shaun Davey, from The Pilgrim. The song has been a touch stone for me at different times in my life journey. The Irish language, the haunting voice and the Celtic flavors throughout the CD awakens my spirit. It also echoes something of my heritage, lost in translation, from Celtic peoples with a distinct language, culture and spirituality that evoke the theme for my prayer “The Pilgrim”. St. Patrick’s Breastplate that is part of the Deer Cry song reminds me of a heritage of monastic living. The prayer Gospel story is from St. Luke: 10.v38-42 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a certain village, a woman names Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’ feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to Jesus and asked, “Lord do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me”. But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her”. Reflection on prayer I come to the story of Martha and Mary; two people who reflect the struggle I get myself caught up in so often.
