What many people do not realize is that exercise plays a key role in how healthy a person can be. If people are sedentary, they are more at risk of heart disease and possible early death. The purpose of this paper is to educate others about the many health benefits that exercise can have on the body and how it can help prevent disease. This topic is very important because we are dealing with so many diseases that could possibly be prevented if exercise was incorporated into a daily routine. So many people are sickened with disease, yet most only know to take a medication to fix the problem when something as simple as exercise might be a very important component in trying to fix whatever ails them.
As a country, we are spending over $190 billion a year treating these diseases, diseases that could be prevented by increasing exercise and decreasing calories. The scariest fact is that one in three children under 18 are overweight or obese, a rate that has tripled since 1960. The fact that the obesity rates are so high shows that as a society we accept this lifestyle. We need to be proactive as a country, and stop accepting this lifestyle and work towards a healthier society. If this continues we will have a new generation of people that don’t outlive their parents.
Death rates from all cancers has fallen twice as fast for men than women. Therefore meaning that health is very unequal for both gender’s. Gender stereotypes have a huge impact in the equalness of men and women, As women are sometimes still seen as the primary carers of children. Women’s jobs are usually associated with the 4 C’s, caring, cleaning, catering and cash registers. Women are often stereotyped into certain jobs and out of others yet they make up more than 50% of the workforce.
1 – More than half of British children by the age of sixteen are obese and as a result, many have health related problems. 2 – One third of adolescents blame the lack of sports / activity sessions available to them and a lack of knowledge of such sessions available to them in their surrounding areas. 3 – More than one third of adolescents are unaware of the current recommended activity levels which should amount to THREE 30-40 minute sessions of physical, FUN activity each week. I think that it is important to provide a variety of enrichment activities during out of college hours time, not just focusing on the sporting element but also activities classed as non-traditional, such as dancing, frisbee and chess. It is important to develop sporting equality programmes within the college including activities for female students, students from ethnic minorities and “Ability Counts” (for students with learning
This causes muscles to become small and weak, and usually results in paralysis. In all reality half of the people with ALS live three years after they find out they have it. Living with the disease is physically difficult, but people can still think clearly, and communication can sometimes be difficult. While the disease affects the spinal cord, brain, and nerves, people can handle it for a short or long period of time. Ten percent of people will survive more than ten years.
IRON For the casual athlete who trains less than four hours per week, iron deficiency is no more of a concern than for a sedentary person. But athletes who train for six or more hours per week often have iron-deficiency anemia and should be checked yearly for the condition. Female athletes who are unable to correct such mild anemia through diet can benefit from supplements. [4] 8. Athletes use iron stores more quickly than nonathletes and, considering the neurologic effects of anemia on children and teens who engage in rigorous sports, adequate intake of iron is quite important.
It has been shown that obese workers miss more days of work, which costs the other fellow employers more in medical and disability claims as well as workers compensation claims. The Yale Rudd Centre for Food Policy and Obesity states,
Technology and Obesity Over the years, childhood obesity has become a widespread occurrence. According to the American Heart Association, about one in three American children is overweight. Not only does obesity result in excessive weight, but it also leads to the risk of diabetes, high cholesterol, physical inactivity, and high blood pressure. Many also suffer from depression and low self-confidence. Most families turn to technology to keep their children occupied without realizing that excessive consumption may harm their health.
1). A staggering 50 to 90 percent of youth in California juvenile detention facilities suffer mental illness. A study on these youth concluded approximately 2,000 are jailed daily due to lack of community resources (National Center for Youth Law, 2015). One answer to this crisis was the development of juvenile mental health courts. Juvenile mental health courts concentrate on treatment instead of punishment.
Health Care System has along way to go before it becomes sufficient to benefit the citizens of this country. The elderly have known this longer than any other citizen. In 1999, the Health Care Financing Administration (1999) stated that “80 percent of the 65+ population have one or more chronic diseases, 50 percent have 2 or more, and 24 percent have problems so sever as to limit their ability to perform one of more activities of daily living”. Our health care industry has invested and spent billions of dollars researching the treatment of these chronic diseases as they pertain to the younger population, but very rarely address research and control of diseases that pertain to the elderly. If reasoning was put into this process, the facts are that by treating the young, we have allowed them to live longer, yet as they live longer and age, we no longer consider it important to treat their illnesses and diseases.
