Importance of Physical Activity and Nutrition “When have your health, you have everything. When you do not have your health, nothing else matters at all.” (“Augusten Burroughs”) This quote from Augusten Burroughs reflects the view that many people have in regards to health. That being said, it is rather shocking to see how many people do not take the necessary steps to stay in good shape and keep their bodies healthy. Many factors affect a person’s overall health, but two of the leading contributors are physical fitness and nutrition. Exercise is a word that everyone is very familiar with in today’s society. People know that one of the biggest parts to keep their bodies healthy is exercise on a regular basis. However, many people do not have a clue just how many benefits come from it. Some of the benefits that stand out the most: exercise helps keep a person at a healthy weight, fights against diseases and heart conditions, improves sleep patterns, helps mood, gives energy, and reverses the effects of stress and depression. (“Benefits of Exercise”) Many people begin to exercise to help them lose weight, but exercise on a regular basis can also help a person maintain a healthy weight. When someone is trying to lose weight, they must burn more calories than they take in per day. This is not always the easiest thing to do so a better alternative is to establish a plan that incorporates some type of physical activity into a daily routine. There are many types of exercise equipment that a person can work out with but going to a gym or using these machines is not for everyone. Exercise for some people may mean playing a game of football, swimming, taking a hike, or many other things. The possibilities are virtually endless.
