Philosophy of Teaching

My philosophy of teaching would be that I would certainly want all of my students to learn the fundamental content of the courses I teach. But beyond that, I would hope to foster critical thinking, facilitate the acquisition of life-long learning skills, prepare students to function effectively in an information economy, and develop problem-solving strategies. To be an educated person in this field means to be able to teach. Able to teach a younger generation all that I know to help them learn. My responsibilities include that I am able to teach a class full of children that do not know what I am about to teach and by then end of the day they understand and have a mental grasp on what I have taught them. The student’s responsibilities are much less. They just need to use their listening skills and participate in the classroom assignments. I want to be able to improve the education of my students by teaching them how to listen, be responsible, and show them by example how to behave. Perennialism would be the philosophy I would follow the most, focusing the core curriculum analyzing enduring ideas found in Great Books. And to help my students increase their intellectual powers and to appreciate learning for its own sake.
The Four Domains are Planning and Preparation, Creating a Learning Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibility. How I will use the Four Domains in my classroom will be to start with Planning and Preparation, I will make sure I know different approaches to learning based on individual needs. I will have prior knowledge and/or interests on the cultural heritage of my students to help the make connections as they are learning. I will make clear standards for all of my students and a wide variety of activities that all my students can participate in.
