Philanthropy Religion has been a huge driver for philanthropy. As a Christian I try to donate to charities to aid the poor, aged, and orphaned people. This choice is dependent on how much I can spare at the time, while providing the basic necessities for my family. Philanthropy comes from the heart and at some point in my life and upon the completion of my college education I would love to be involved in philanthropy work. In my opinion philanthropy differs from charity in that it usually helps a large group or institution rather than one or a few individuals. As defined in the Webster’s Dictionary, philanthropy is the promotion of the well-being of human beings by individuals or groups who contribute their services or dedicate their property or money. As a female from a male dominated culture, it is my hope that this will lead to breaking down barriers to giving, while influencing the next wave of philanthropy leading to innovative thinking with the goal of everlasting change in Ghana. Hopefully this can empower young woman to develop strength based education/career plan with workforce development in the end to work to better humanity. The contribution of such people will set an example for their communities and the public in general and create great platforms to raise awareness around philanthropy encouraging citizens to donate their time and money towards social good. This same model can empower communities within this country also. Providing or opening the eyes of both adults and young adults to provide the disadvantaged for shared community responsibility, and giving to community needs and abroad. The main aim of this type of work is to give aid to every individual, irrespective of sex, racial and ethnic belonging, who has found them self in a difficult situation and needs a financial support to achieve a positive outcome.
