A religious leader plays the part of the medium between the sacred and man. In religions like Catholicism, the leader also plays the roll of father in a father/son relationship or the roll of a shepherd to his flock. Not all religions place the leadership in a dominate roll. In Christianity the roll of a Pastor is to only interpret the word of God and help followers stay on the righteous path. Traditions are different all over the world no matter the religion or culture.
In Christianity it is believed that Jesus Christ was the savior to all humanity and was sent to Earth by his father (God) to pay for the sins of all mankind. In Judaism on the other hand, Jesus was merely a prophet. Both Christianity and Judaism were established in Israel. Christianity was founded around 30 AD in contrast to Judaism which started around 1000 BC. Although a few sacred readings and the form that followers pray are similar in both religions they are also slightly different.
In the beginning, Leon ties a feather in his grandfather’s hair, symbolizing the respect he has for him. The family’s neighbors also show respect by coming to see Teofilo’s family and leaving food for the gravediggers. Another character which emphasizes the theme of respect is Father Paul. When he is first introduced, he seems skeptical of the Indian ceremonies. “He looked at the red blanket, not sure that Teofilo was so small, wondering if it wasn’t some perverse Indian trick.” (Silko 34) But then, as he begins to sprinkle holy water on Teofilo, he seems to accept the Indian ways as he compares the falling holy water to an August rain.
Jehovah Witnesses Jehovah Witnesses The religion of Jehovah Witnesses dates back to the late 1800’s. A man named Charles Taze Russell created a group called International Bible Students Association in 1872. Charles Taze Russell had a hard time believing what was being taught in the traditional Christianity. He did not believe in bad people going to hell and being tormented for all eternity, nor did he believe that the Father (God), the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit are all in one. Jehovah’s witnesses are more commonly associated with being a cult.
Tyler Lindsey Period 5 10/30/13 The differences between European and Native American beliefs The Native Americans and the Puritans had different beliefs but they had a similarity. They had the same idea of the dead passing over to a spiritual world. In my readings of puritan and Native American literature, I learned that they have a lot of different beliefs. The Puritans are a religious group who broke away from the Church of England to practice their religion freely. The Puritans believe that everything happens because of God.
He testified on many occasions that his faith in Jesus was the only mechanism by which he could pursue and perform the art of science. Carver became a Christian when he was still a young boy, as he wrote in connection to his conversion in 1931.He was not expected to live past his twenty-first birthday due to failing health. Throughout his career, he always found friendship with other Christians. He relied on them especially when criticized by the scientific community and media regarding his research methodology. Carver viewed faith in Jesus Christ as a means of destroying both barriers of racial disharmony and social stratification.

Traditionally Wicca or Neopaganism means either "wise ones" or to bend or shape. Christianity means the followers of Christ. Gerald Gardner (1884–1964), a retired English civil servant founded Wicca in the 1950s in England and the theology of this religion is Polytheism (many Gods) or pantheism (God/Gods are part of nature). (Heselton, 2009). Jesus of Nazareth (c. 4 BC-30 AD), a Palestinian Jew, residing in Israel/Palestine, brought Christianity to humanity.
The remedies included natural herbal plants, but also spirits! Local Individuals in America considered that men and women should live in balance with individual characteristics and you cure by coming back to individuals with balance. Most of the communities had special "medicine" men and women who did the treatment. Sometimes they are called shamans. They used plenty of different natural herbal plants to cure.
Marriage, it goes without saying is very critical in African society. Since it is forbidden in Catholicism for pastors and bishops to marry, the Catholic Church in particular did not have much success in converting many Africans to their religion during these earlier centuries. The Protestant Church had more success in converting Africans who then became clergy because it allowed for monogamous marriages by the clergy. Interestingly, many African churches identified themselves as Protestant yet permitted their priests and bishops to marry more than one wife, a practice that is still common today. These are the churches that I referred to earlier as practicing Africanized forms of Christianity.
