The onslaught of the boomer generation will need immediate plans set in place by the government, services institutions, private and medical organization that provide to the elderly and by the Boomers themselves. It is hard for me to disassociate myself from this topic. That is why I will address the solutions from a personal perspective. Let’s begin with the financial fixes that I believe service providers and legislators could implement to ease the aging process for my generation. As I stated earlier, the economy has reeked havoc on whatever little we have saved in 401 accounts, but I like many others, have kept these funds active in the belief tht things will begin to change and I will able to recoup at least some of my old age investments.
We need to do something to help the minors who did not have a choice of coming over here, but just followed their parents. If these minors are here in the U.S and thriving for an education or serve our country why not give them a path to citizenship. It is not easy as immigrant to stay focus and achieve what you want in life. The more immigrants that become legal they would pay taxes and our deficit would go down in the long run. Until the government decides what to do, we are going to be in this recession.
So by raising the dept ceiling the government would be able to avoid a shutdown that would greatly impact Americans. Americans are already having a hard enough time as it is with the way the job market is already proven by the high number of people on unemployment. “All that sounds like an Armageddon scenario. But those assessments are widely held by mainstream economists who don't have a partisan stake in the debt talks. They're not saying the world would actually end, but they are warning Washington that jobs and livelihoods – not just political wins and losses – are at stake.” With the cut of social security, unemployment, higher taxes and other consequences that would follow the Americans would be in
AMERICA AND AMERICANS FIRST Why does our country insist on sending billions of our dollars overseas when we cannot even take care of our own? A conservative estimate of over $114 billion annually goes to Israel alone and I would venture to say we easily send an additional $200 to $300 billion elsewhere. My question is why? American are living in times that skirt the great depression; unemployment is at a staggering 9.0%, people are losing their homes daily with many having nowhere to live. Our welfare system is almost bankrupt as is social security; by the time I am eligible to collect SSI in 14 years there probably will not be anything to collect.
Because many want to work, have family, but no degree; a lot of businesses open their doors when they can monetarily! “By setting an artificial minimum on wages, lawmakers unintentionally raise the unemployment of the most disadvantaged and make it nearly impossible for teenagers and other unskilled citizens to enter the labor pool,” says Stephen Chapman spouting openly concerning the argumentative pay raise(3 Meisner, et al). When the hourly wages go up the small business doors tend to close. Raising the minimum wage does nothing for them other than causing the cost of living to go up, and causes them to pay a little more in income tax. Just those two ideas alone put them having less money in the aftermath of the raise, than they did before this cold remnant of fairness hits too
The Social Security Trust Fund thrives off the baby boomers that were born after World War II. Now, these baby boomers are retiring and they will “throw the budget…out of whack” (Schiller 265). When this happens, there will be fewer workers per retiree and a primary source of government will disappear. We should be worried about this because the treasury will not easily be able to pay back the Social Security Trust Fund. As a result of this, Congress would have to raise taxes as well as make cuts in certain programs and as Schiller says, “none of these options is attractive” (Schiller 265).
But for many Americans, the term “leftover money” does not exist in their vocabulary. Statistics from the Commerce Department prove, “The savings rate for Americans is the lowest it has been in 73 years” (Wallechinsky, para 10). Saving money is nearly impossible, let alone paying monthly bills. Also, benefits from jobs such as healthcare and bonuses are decreasing along with businesses being stricter about missing work. When Richard Oden was not able to return to work fast enough after getting a major surgery, unfortunately, “to help support his family, Oden had to dip into his 401(k) fund, paying a penalty for premature withdrawal” (Wallechinsky, para 8).
For decades, illegal immigrants have been struggling. People around the world travel to the United States seeking a better life due to poverty in their homeland. In fact, most unauthorized residents either entered the United States without inspection or were admitted temporarily and stayed past the date they were required to leave. In addition, they think that it will be better for them and they will be able to find jobs to support their families. Therefore, they try all kinds of methods to come here without realizing how difficult it can be for them to stay in this country without proper documents.
Illegal Immigration in the United States The nation of America and Her citizens is currently at a crossroad as a result of some deliberations that key policy makers made in past years continuing to haunt its people. The issue of illegal immigration is, in fact, a major challenge to America and its economy in part because there is no clear estimate of the existing number of these illegal immigrants in the nation to warrant effective planning. Most of these illegal immigrants came to seek employment opportunities. With the absence of a mechanism to compute the exact number of these people the country would not be in a better position to budget its funds for various pillars of economy like health care and achieve the desirable outcome of offering
It goes against our Constitutional right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Studies show that more than eighteen thousands adults die each year because they are uninsured and can't get proper health care. How is it that in America, the greatest country in the world, thousands of people can die each for something that can be changed and nothing is done? Each year we deny eighteen thousand people the right to live, a right guaranteed to them by our fore fathers. The implementation of a universal healthcare system would save lives and allow people to be free to pursue their
