UNITED STATES ARMY PUTS A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO STANDARDS



          Every year, new changes are made; some good and some are bad. Within

the past several years the Army has changed the tattoo policy on three separate

occasions. As the Army continues to take away and put more constrictions on

the force, serving in the military is becoming less and less appealing. The most

recent change came on March 7, 2014 when Army Secretary John McHugh

approved the revision to Army Regulation 670-1 which covers military

appearance and wearing of the military’s uniforms. In the old Army Regulation

if you had a uniform violation you were just corrected on the spot. In the new

regulation any violation will be a punitive order. This goes back to the military

looking to downsize and finding any little way to punish a soldier over

something small.

          To begin with, one of the many policies that will take place is females

fingernail length will not exceed ¼ inch, to include no fake nails, add-ons, or

even extension will be authorized. Even though I am not a female I do have an

aunt that is in the Army and she is very aggravated by this change. This change

will no longer allow females to invest in long term beauty regiments. Females

generally like to look nice when attending banquets or military balls so again

this change will put a damper on many females Army wide.

          Secondly, tattoos will not be visible above the neck line when wearing

the physical fitness uniform. Soldiers will not be able to get tattoos that extend

below the wrist line to include the hands. All sleeve tattoos will be prohibited.

For soldiers that are already in and have these types of tattoos they will be

grandfathered. Now that I have explained the tattoo change here is where I think

we have an issue. I have been in recruiting for about 8 years now and I have

seen many people get turned away for their tattoos but otherwise totally
