You can hit their car and permanently hurt them and if you don’t get hurt then you will have a huge lawsuit on your hands for that person’s health care and car damage. Is texting while driving worth your own life or another person’s life? Anything can happen when you’re eyes aren’t focused. The roads can be serious safety issues for people that text while
“Incidents of “road rage” were up 51% in the first half of the decade, according to a report from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety,” writes Andrew Ferguson in Road Rage (553). It’s sad that due to road rage many innocent commuters suffer the consequences. It has also happened to me while driving; because I’m driving to slow, the person behind me starts to blow the horn. And, it makes thing worse because then I will get mad and drive even slower. In Road Rage, Ferguson points out that in a recent survey that the Coalition for Consumer Health and Safety did, 64% of the people mentioned that they are driving less mannerly and more recklessly than they did about five years ago (553).
Drunk driving is the leading cause of death for people from the age of six to thirty-three years old (Curran, 1). One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime (MADD, 1). Everyday thirty-six people in the United States die due to the crashes and approximately 700 more are injured in car crashes that involve alcohol-impaired drivers. This year, 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes; one every fifty minutes (MADD, 1). “Cracking down on those who take drugs or drink and then drive is a year round commitment for Warwickshire and West Mercia.”- West Mercia Police.
Drink Driving is a serious offence that has MANY negative outcomes to it. Not only are you at risk of losing your licence, affecting day to day tasks and also receiving a heavy fine, but you are also putting yourself, your passengers and any person’s life, who is on the road, in DANGER. Paragraph 1: Each year on Victorian roads, approximately a quarter of drivers are killed or injured from drink driving related incidents where the driver has had a Blood Alcohol Concentration level of at least 0.05 or greater. According to the Transport Accident Commission, with a blood alcohol concentration limit of 0.05, the driver is already doubling their chance to be involved in an accident. At 0.08 it is seven times the risk.
Texting while driving is a highly controversial issue, and the people involved are concerned with delayed reaction times, causing more car accidents, and insurance liability. Drivers are taught to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. But it is very common to see people, especially younger people, trying to drive while glancing down at a cell phone or in some cases not watching the road at all. Michael Austin’s study “Texting While Driving: How Dangerous Is It?” states that a person’s reaction time while texting and driving is three times worse than it is if the person has been drinking. Statistics have indicated that over 6,000 deaths and well over half a million injuries have occurred due to drivers using cell phones in 2011 alone.
Well this isn’t a joke when it comes to senior drivers. They are accountable for more accidents then young drivers do. There are many factor that are a reason for this occurrence that range from loss of eyesight due to old age, to seniors not being able to keep up with current technology and the fast-pace of today’s driving. Granted, there are many seniors who are perfectly fit to drive cars even at ages that exceed 70 years old. People age differently.

I will never forget this evening and how it changed my life forever. I do not ever take chances with drinking and driving anymore and have learned a very valuable lesson. Drinking and driving is not only a huge hazard to yourself but more so to other innocent people on the road. You put your life and the life of others in jeopardy when you choose to drink and then get behind the wheel of a car. I was drunk hundreds and hundreds of nights and drove and I think how horrible it would have been and how horrible I would feel today if I had hit someone or caused them harm because of my drinking and
