Introduction The School Effectiveness Framework (2008 b) states that: Enable all children and young people to develop their full potential by acquiring skills, knowledge, understanding and attitudes, including personal, social and emotional skills, to enable them to become economically, socially and personally active citizens and lifelong learners. (DCELLS, p.8) The above statement provides an important and interesting perspective on the current education system. This assignment will discuss the important links that can be drawn between the given statement and using a variety of sources, theorist views and perspectives of education professionals, it shall explore broader perspectives on our educational system and current curriculum. The importance of a broad and balanced National Curriculum shall be discussed in relation to the measures and theories put into place by the government, Learning Authorities, Schools and Practitioners in order to support learners in developing their full potential and becoming economically, socially and personally active citizens and life-long learners. Personal experiences and observations from block school experience will be incorporated to support such arguments, in addition to providing a personal perspective of professionals and theorists within the educational system. This assignment will discuss important links such as the importance and relevance of personal and social development within the curriculum, linking into the emotional development of learners and finally leading onto how these aspects of learning and development will facilitate learners to become morally active citizens, lifelong learners and maintain a stable society in an ever-changing world. Within these key areas, the following points will be explored, will inevitably link together and undeniably link to theories and perspectives of educational professionals
