Moreira (2012) stated, “Humanistic-phenomenological psychotherapy is a contemporary development of person-centered therapy” (p. 3). Carl Rogers was an influential psychologist as well. The article on Carl Rogers describes his findings and the importance of his research and how these findings are researched even further. Many changes have been made to the Rogerian theory, which originated from a clinical theory of psychotherapy, Rogers work expanded into other areas such as education (Moreira, 2012). Psychologists and researchers around the world have continued the study of Rogers’s person-centered
Evaluate 3 Approaches to treating Mental Disorders: Psychodynamic, Biological and Behavioural Approach. When looking at the treatment of people with mental health issues there have been various methods tried, some having limited success and some having long term success, in this essay I shall discuss the three listed in the title along with the benefits and weaknesses of each. Psychodynamic Approach: The concept of the psychodynamic approach is to explain behaviour in terms of the forces that drive it. The best known example of this approach is Freud’s theory of personality, although there are many other psychodynamic theories based on Freud’s ideas. Sigmund Freud was the first to challenge the view that mental disorders were caused by physical illness and proposed that psychological factors were responsible for the illness.
The three therapies were discussed and ranked in order of effectiveness in regards to Gloria. The evolution of these theories and their merits are also discussed. When used properly each of these theories can be useful in their own different way. This will depend on the personality of the client as well as the magnitude of their problem. In this review of the Three Psychotherapies that were implemented in the Gloria Tapes it is apparent how different the three approaches are even though they are all considered psychotherapy.
Word count 2417 Evaluate the claim that Person-Centred Therapy offers the therapist all that he/ she will need to treat clients. To start to evaluate this claim I will first need to look at the key areas of the theory. The Person Centred Theory was developed in the 40’s by American psychologist Carl Rogers. The person centred theory is based on three core conditions which I will explain later. I will be taking a look at some of the criticisms of the theory as well as the good points of Rogers’s theory, and although there are some critics of the theory there is no doubt that Rogers’s approach to counselling is an in-valuable part in the history of the humanistic thinking.
A. Develop an applicable standards and procedures section that includes four elements of acceptable or unacceptable behavior found in a code of ethics. Acceptable standards and procedures that company X will give to you and expects from you in return: 1. Trustworthiness- We will always do what we say we are going to do at company X. We must always be consistent, reliable, credible, acting with high integrity and honest.
Therefore it is sensible to say that through careful observation our sense experience provides us with information that is reliable to use when carrying on the daily activities in our lives. Reid (2008) believes we can trust our senses for accurate and truthful knowledge based on three main points. He points out that empirical information gained through the sense experience is necessary to function properly in the real world. For example, when we look at things in the world we see objects and their qualities such as color, shape, and hardness. The existence of an object’s qualities cannot exist without the object existing, therefore we know what is presented immediately through our perception is real.
Currently, hypnotherapy is primarily used as a treatment modality of psychological distress. Some of the approaches used in hypnotherapy easily align with positive psychology’s focus on an individual’s strengths (Guse, 2012), but it also has the ability to allow individuals to tap into their mental and intellectual processes, taking on a cognitive approach; as well as addressing conditioning, a behavioral approach to psychotherapy. (Kagan, Segal & Havemann, 2004, p.554) Modern psychotherapy uses various approaches to address an innumerable amount of diagnosable mental and behavioral disorders. According to various task forces in the United States and the United Kingdom, cognitive therapy and cognitive behavior therapy are empirically supported therapies (EST’s) that have shown to be useful in the treatment of depression. (Kagan, Segal & Havemann, 2004, p.561)The majority of scientific research and empirical evidence of the efficacy of hypnotherapy as an adjunct treatment lies within the realm of cognitive behavior
Personality Assessment and Theories Cynthia Harding BEH/225 September 29, 2012 Serena Watts-Kumar, Instructor Personality Assessment and Theories “Personality refers to an individual’s unique pattern of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that persists over time and across situations” (Morris & Maisto, 2010, p.359). There are four theories that explain different approaches to personality assessment. The four approaches are psychodynamic, humanistic, trait, and social learning. Personality is measured by psychologist with an assessment using four basic tools: personal interview, the objective tests, projective test, and direct observation of behavior. The different theories use different methods for assessing the personality.
Your views of the conscience and unconscious are looked at as the greatest contributions and help in understanding behavior and the problems of personality. The psychosexual stages of development are probably the most significant contribution to the development of personality. The stages of development beginning at infancy and going through ones entire life until old age is a key tool in understanding key developmental tasks and characteristics of the various stages of life. While all of your research and ideas have helped us to understand the human mind and body, I do agree that some of the information needs to be reanalyzed and updated. It is my understanding that you revised your theories many times as you worked to accumulate new data and research fresh insights.
