I chose nursing as my profession because I like to help people in need and nursing is about helping and caring for people who are in need. My passion for nursing began after the delivery of my last child. I was very sick and helpless but the way the nurses cared for me gave me hope and strength to go on. I felt that I could give help in return to those individuals who needed help and had no one to care for them at desperate times when they were sick.
I believe that the core of nursing is caring and loving others. Giving quality care and love to the individuals in need gives them hope which in turn helps to speed up recovery. Nursing care is a labor of love which may or may not be appreciated; however the joy derived from caring for others and seeing them feel better makes nurses to want to care more for others.
I believe that the focus of nursing is to provide the best quality of care and maintain safety within my scope of practice. Nursing care involves monitoring physical, emotional, social and psychosocial wellbeing of the patients; therefore most times the nurse is the life line of the patient. Patient care is individualized based on patient’s needs. It also involves safety.
My vision for myself as a nurse is to continue to learn daily not just from books and journal but also from the work environment and the situation of things that happen around me. I would like to continue to grow in my profession through the acquisition of knowledge by continuing my education and achieving the professional qualifications needed to back up my career as a nurse.
To live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I must remember this about the following: * My patients are human beings like me who need
