There are four types of path-goal styles of leadership which include directive, supportive, participative, and achievement-oriented leadership. After completing the questionnaire to decide which path-goal style I have, it is clear that I am supportive as well as participative. I feel this allows me to effectively help others when they are having problems because value their needs. In a leadership position it is important to help your team with whatever they needs may be, personally and professionally. If everyone puts their heads together, and values each other’s viewpoint on any given task, the end result seems to always turn out better than it would if there was only one mind involved. I am comfortable with setting goals and giving directions to others because I have received the same out of my leadership. I have realized how much easier it is to achieve what is asked if I have direction in the particular task. I need some direction every once in a while, and I feel that others do as well in order to understand what is expected of them. After reviewing my scores in the questionnaire I would like my directive and achievement-oriented leadership skills to improve. I feel that to be a more directive leader I need to explain in more detail how things should be done as well as creating a timeline of when the task should be completed. I don’t normally give a timeline because I do feel that most people are competent in their jobs and are able to complete them. However, placing deadlines on things would speed up the flow of work being accomplished. I also need to improve my achievement-oriented leadership in order to challenge others to excel and push my peers to higher levels of success. It is important to set standards and reward employees, even with a verbal congratulation’, when a task is completed effectively. I personally thrive on competition, but
