Paradigms Shifts in Everyday Life – Movies

The word “paradigm” coined by Thomas S. Kuhn in his classic book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions in 1962. A paradigm is defined basically as the set of assumptions or the vision of reality through each of every one of us perceives the world. Any change is not necessarily a paradigm or a paradigm shift. For example changing you soft drink preference from Dr. Pepper’s is just a choice of change in brand. It does however the switching off drinking bottle water in lieu of tap water is said to be a paradigm shift. The reason for this is that there has been a fundamental change in our thinking which has now led to a whole new behavioral style (The Big Blue Gumball, 2012). Water which was available in plenty through a tap has now become a product for businesses to capitalize on even though the water tastes the same. People have now begun to choose or prefer bottled water over tap water and various companies like Nestle and Aquafina supply them. This simple example illustrates a paradigm shift. A big paradigm shift has taken place in our generation today is a shift from analog to digital and from wired to wireless. Technological revolutions have completely changed our lives today and we see major behavioral changes impacting our daily life – work lifestyle, entertainment etc. In this essay I will highlight a shift seen in the entertainment industry with movies specifically focusing on content (The Big Blue Gumball, 2012). In the entertainment industry, movies were set on themes reflecting the times; they could be drama, fictitious romance stories or real life stories about historical figures etc. Many of the historical movies reflected events to educate and show the people what took place during the American Civil War, World War 1, Gladiator battles in ancient Rome and the birth of Christ for example.
