THE PAMPERED PALATE I. POINT OF VIEW * Owner/manager of Pampered Palate II. PROBLEM STATEMENT * How manager can best recruit and select people with the best potential for each position favorable for both the original employees and the newcomers. III. PROBLEM ANALYSIS AND SYNOPSIS * The Pampered Palate is a very well known specialty shop of baked products and snack items. The business started with an eventual entrepreneur’s love for cooking and baking. Moreover, the bakeshop experienced unprecedented success that they needed to put up a branch and they even more experience success that led them to set up new outlets. However, the owner was running out of children to manage the outlet and house help to assist in running the business. The management then started to hire from the outside, including professionals with appropriate degrees and formidable experience in running such type of business. All of a sudden, the owner had to contend with two sets of employees, those who address her with domestic reverential titles and those who interact with her with the formal and professional “Ma’am”. The issues that arose consisted of staffing concerns, interpersonal conflicts among employees, and level of professional relationship and also issues related to organizational structure started to surface. As the growth of the enterprise necessitated conversion from single proprietorship to a corporate entity. Jobs have to be more circumscribed as to the sets of functions, responsibilities and accountabilities. These make even more make the situation into conflicts between the original employees and the newcomers. With this reasons and statements, the case analyst came to conclude that the manager should analyze and take action regarding on clarifying and re-definition of the organizational structure. IV.
