Abstract There are many people out in the world who sit and daydream about their dream job. They put themselves in the shoes of a worker on an average day within that job. This dream job can be in the technical field, healthcare field or even owning your own business. I am one of those people that sit and daydream about owning my own business one day. This business would be an IT business. I recently interviewed one of my former coworkers who also owned her own business. She gave me great insight on what it meant to be a professional while owning your own business. It is important to have proper communication skills when owning your own business because it can excel your business and prevent any future headaches. Improper communications skills can leads to a breakdown of relations between owner, customer, and employee. This can lead to a loss of profits from the customer as well as employee confusion. Owning My Own Business The thought of owning my own business has always been appealing to me. The idea of being in control of how my talents and abilities are used has also been appealing to me. When you work under someone else’s authority you also work under their leading which means your talents may not be used to their full potential. However if you have your own business, you have more freedom to decide how and when those talents are to be used. I admit, I do not know much about owning a business but I do know that it takes a lot of risk, energy, investment of both money and time, sacrifices, and a whole lot of patience. To gain a better understanding on what it takes to have a business and to be professional within it, I asked a former coworker, Monica Creek.
