Overcoming an Obsticle

I have accomplished various ordeals in my life that I am proud of, although overcoming my shyness has been the most rewarding. By being shy, I was becoming easily stressed out which unfortunately made me turn away from more people and contributed to my shyness. I knew I had to do something; I did not want to be shy forever. I started to do research online and realized that I had to put more confidence in myself. I did this through improving my communication skills and making new friends. In addition, I used support from my family and friends to help execute these actions. To start my journey, I decided to enhance my communication skills. Communication is a major part of overcoming my shyness. I never knew how to keep a conversation going, and would end up with an awkward silence that kept me from attempting another conversation. I spoke to my family about my goal, and they helped teach me how to communicate better. We began to eat together for dinner more often, and engaged in conversations about our day. This helped me learn how to get involved in conversations better. Communication is two sided; I need to ask questions just as they other person does. If I just answer their question without any additional input from me, the silence begins. I also had to stop worrying about what was going on around me or what other people are thinking of me. Instead, I focused on the conversation and became interested in it. Sometimes there are situations where neither person knows what to say, and in that event I’d ask questions that interest me. Furthermore, it helps me be more comfortable and able to be more outgoing. With this knowledge, I feel I can put my better communication skills to work by meeting new people. Meeting new people isn’t always easy, but with my newly learned knowledge I was able to overcome it. For instance, if I overheard a conversation
