Starting a new school – This could make the child or young person feel nervous because they have to make new friends and could make the child feel anxious because they don’t know what will happen. This could also make the child become shy or dismissive or even anxious. Identify transitions that only some children and young people may experience. Transitions experienced by only some children and young people include: Diagnosis of a disability – This could make the child or young person feel jealousy because he/she may feel different, this could also make the child act unusual such as being dismissive. Divorce – This could make the child or young person feel frustrated, confused because the child or young person may not be seeing one parent as much as before, this could also make the child act unusual such as becoming withdrawn and being argumentative with parents.
They may be less likely to achieve as well at school due to lack of space at home to complete homework. This could result in low expectations of themselves. Housing and Community- Poor housing can affect a child's development. Living in a community where children experience anti-social behaviour can lead to families being isolated and children may not speak to their parents. This could also make it difficult to access education and children may get excluded from school due to behaviour.
T.D.A 2.1 3.3 Each child will experience different changes in their lives. These are known as transitions and can be as common as starting school to changes of the body, to transitions only some children and young people may experience, such as the seperation of parents to abuse. These transitions will affect children and young people in their development and show in ther behaviour. The move from primary school to secondary school is a transition every child will encounter. It can affect the child in many ways as they can become nervous and anxious resulting in them becoming withdrawn and have a lack of confidence at the thought of a new school, they may be leaving close friendship groups making them upset and feeling alone.
Though this may not be directly connected to middle school students it will still have an impact to them in life. Homework also creates stress. Normally presenting at birth or developing early in life, mental retardation is a developmental disability that is marked by below-normal intelligence and limited daily living skills. Individuals with this type of disability mature at a below average rate and experience unusual difficulty in learning, which leads to considerable problems in adapting to everyday life. Categorized by timing, mental retardation can be caused by many factors before, during, and after the child is born. Genetic disorder such as Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, and PKU are the three most common inborn causes. It cannot be denied that the daily choices a pregnant woman makes may affect the mental health of her fetus.
Parents may have difficulties with the language and therefore cannot help their children. Furthermore, parents can find that they do not have enough knowledge of their children's subjects. Some students on the other hand get a lot of help and a nice experience of homework. This is not equal and therefore a reason not to have homework. On the other hand, the opposing side usually argue that there are good reasons to insist on regular homework for school pupils.
This will have caused from poor concentration, the child may also need specific help in their work and class before any sort of progress can be made. 2) Parental illness: a child may need to be looked after because their parents may be ill or cannot cope and as a result the child may have to leave the family home for a period. Throughout this time they may live in foster homes, residential schools or children’s homes. 3) Family breakdown: families break down for a number of reasons including the following substance like abuse, mental health problems, bereavement, parental illness and incapacity. The most dangerous cause of a child being removed from that situation for their own safety and well-being.
For example, Dyslexia (a condition where the brain has difficulty interpreting information) in children is often identified by the parents. However, parents that are unaware or poorly educated may not notice any problems, meaning their child will not receive the crucial help and support they need to achieve. When children struggle in learning to read, write and spell they will soon fall behind at school and other areas of their development will begin to suffer. For example, a child not diagnosed will frequently become frustrated with trying and give up. Then in an attempt to disguise the problem they are more likely to misbehave and disrupt the class.
Some of the causes for anxiety in children may seem harmless, but can actually cause long lasting effects. If understood and acknowledged, several causes of anxiety in children can be prevented or managed, such as the increase in expectations of children, bullying in school, peer pressure, the media, and lack of sleep. Every generation of children has more responsibilities than the last. With the rate of divorce going up, more children are expected to hold in the emotions they suffer from the trauma caused by the splitting of a family. They may be expected to do more around the house chores, help take care of younger siblings, or even get a job at an earlier age than they would have normally.
ASSIGNMENT 023/ UNIT 22 4.1 The early years are a critical period for children’s development as their brains are still growing therefore early identification of speech and language difficulties is absolutely essential. The sooner a child’s needs can be identified the greater chance there is to make sure they have the correct support so they don’t get left behind. Most importantly for children’s speech, language and communication which in turn underpin so many other areas of children’s development. They may find it hard to control their behaviour and play with other children this will result in them feeling isolated and frustrated. Language is linked to the development of literacy.
