Our Realities Are Not Merely Shaped by Ourselves

Reality based merely on one’s personal experience and interpretation would be extremely narrow and blank, because our world is far bigger and broader than what we could ever see and experience in whole lifetime. People rely on different communication platforms such as media or school to expand their vision, the more information we receive from external world, the more we know about reality. This is regarded as “social exchange”, which state that as a part of the social creature, we do not determine our reality on our own. The development of one’s firm understanding to the world must involved in other people’s help. Parents, teacher and friends are responsible for shaping an individual’s views and values since one’s early age. Part of the elderly’s duty is to train an ignorant child into a civilized person by teaching them knowledge – the greatest weapon we utilised to survive in the society. School and teachers offer us education to build a firm reality. They teaches about things like language, science, history, which are foundation facts and knowledge that held on to everyone’s reality. On the other hand, our social groups develop our spiritual reality and interpretation. While parents introduces the primal moral concepts to their children, and guide them to identify what’s right and wrong ; adolescent are also tended to be influences by their peers, and imitate their behaviors and values. A bad role model could always lead to distortion of ethical standard. Therefore, it’s said that people around an individuals play a big role to our lives, because they are both help and interference our perception and reality. Media is crucial in keeping our reality up to date. Through news on television or printed media, we are able to acknowledge what’s happening all around the world even we could not witness them.
