Victor Davis Hanson’s article “Our Brave New World of Immigration” written on realclearpolitics.com on May 25, 2006 tries to get the reader to consider the repercussions of illegal immigration that are not public knowledge. (Hanson)(Pages 699-670). This same month, on May 1, 2006 the Great American Boycott was held across the country with an estimate 1 to 2 million boycotters for full rights for immigrant workers and their families gathered together in Los Angeles, California (Black). As Hanson begins his essay on a factual, common ground place in discussing the business owner’s justification for employing illegal immigrants. He speaks in a third person in the beginning, merely introducing the benefits of low-cost laborers that are willing to complete jobs that citizens don’t seem to want. Hanson’s article is a deeper view based on factual information and personal experience into the dangerous repercussions of illegal immigration that American’s seem to ignore. He goes into detail in the emotion evoking stories, showing how damaging these accidents were. He goes into detail stating the factual information in regards to the accidents, the number of people that were killed or injured, and the amount of people affected by the accidents. This is clearly a use of pathos. He also goes into detail in discussing the factual information in regards to the number of illegal aliens living in the United States, and in describing how immigration used to be in the nineteenth-century.
