Article Review: Organizational Development and the Contribution of Charlie Seashore Organizational Development evolved from National Training Laboratories (NTL) laboratory methods and survey research methods which were considered to pioneered by Kurt Lewin around 1946 (Brown, 2011). Charlie Seashore had family connections to Kurt Lewin, mentored and taught OD professionals, and is also a pioneer within the OD field. He is known for his influential writing on feedback and the use of self in the practice of OD. Charlie, born Charles Norman Seashore comes from a family of psychologists who were very educated and well known in the field. His grandfather received the first PhD awarded from Yale, and his father and mother were both well-known research and faculty members (Nash, 2014). Article Reflection Nash provides an insight into Seashore’s life and progression as a research assistant. Nash worked at the University of Michigan with Ron Lippitt at the Research Institute for Social Research. While working towards his doctoral degree, Seashore learned the importance of experiential learning because most of his learning at the time was taught with a focus on research instead of practice. After completing his PhD, Seashore went on to work for 10 years at the National Training Laboratories (NTL) Institute where he developed the Key Executive Conference and worked with Foreign Service officers in the State Department in Washington, D.C. (Nash, 2014). From reviewing this article, it was critical to understand Seashore’s intellectual contributions to OD. Growing up around Kurt Lewin, the founder of modern social psychology played a huge role in being integrated components of Seashore’s work (Nash, 2014).
