Canada showed how independent of a country it is during WWI, after WWI, during WWII, and after WWII which was the post war. World War I was the main key source that caused Canada to grow drastically and be more independent than ever before. Canada’s soldiers made huge contributions and turned out to be a successful fighting force in the whole war. They went from being totally disrespected and deemed weak to gaining great respect and becoming the allies. They were thrown into the front of the most important and most difficult battles, and were clearly discerned from other British and Commonwealth troops
Without the help of Sir Keith Park and the Royal Air Force, the casualty number would have been a lot larger. Sir Keith Park commandeered the 11th Group of Fighter Command. Keith also created a brilliant plan for the defense of London and the South East of England. Keith was in command of the squadron that fought for the Battle of Britain. The failure of the Luftwaffe to defeat the Royal Air Force in 1940 at the Battle of Britain is seen as Germany’s first major mistake in the Second World War against the western front.
Name: kartik Patel Subject: history 101 Professor: Dr. Gilbert stack Essay: Hannibal Hannibal Hannibal, a Carthaginian general and one of the greatest generals that ever lived was renown for his strategies and courageousness, such as crossing the Alps and using the bottleneck strategy at Lake Tradesmen. He used strategies that a lot of generals at this time, especially Roman generals, would never think of and in doing this he almost destroyed the Roman republic. From the middle of the 3rd century to the middle of the 2nd century BC, Carthage was engaged in a series of wars with Rome (Dorey, P 57). These wars, known as the Punic Wars, ended
Poison gas was also used at Ypres for the first time. The Germans had used chlorine gas for the first time in this war and it had badly affected Canadians because they were unaware of this new weapon. Canada has won recognition for showing courage and a reputation during the war. “For holding the line amid the gas attacks of the first critical four days of the battle, the Canadians were praised for their courage and tenacity, a reputation that would only grow as the war continued.” (Second Battle of Ypres- The Canadian Encyclopedia). Within very little time, the Canadians had lost a lot of men but through this battle they had gained a reputation as a “formidable fighting force” (Veterans Affair of Canada).
Alistair Horne: The Price of Glory The battle of Verdun in is said to have been one of the greatest and most protracted battles in the history of warfare. The battle started in 1916; it was the longest war in World War 1. They thought the war would not last awhile with all of their artillery but they were wrong. . The war involved so many men, positioned on a small piece of land.
This was perfect for the upcoming invasion they planned for Britain. The battle could be seen as a success as well. The battle left Britain to fight another day instead of having to lose the battle and even possibly the war so soon. This was a victory because it escaped more than 338,000 troops for the allies and the BEF soldiers as well. The evacuation of Dunkirk was the most significant event that happened in Dunkirk.
After all the changes and modifications, the plan gave an impressive troop count. They had 4 armies, 11 army corps 38 divisions (15 motorized and 23 infantry), plus 9 Volks artillery corps and 7 Volks Werfer Brigades. It was wondered by many Western Front Generals how Hitler and his plan designer Jodl were able to come up with so many divisions that they either couldn’t see or just didn’t have. This was something that Hitler had not informed his subordinates. One of the Armies that would participate, the Fifteenth Army, was already fighting in the Aachen Battle and would not be employed until the Allied Forces had reacted to the German attack.
The War established the U.S as one of the world’s Superpowers and marked its entry into global affairs. The war also redefined American national identity, bringing aid to problems of social divisions as well as redefining all future news reportage. Roosevelt returned home as a war hero and soon was elected governor and then vice president, as he predicted the war helped repairing relations between the American North and South by giving both sides a common enemy for the first time since the end of the Civil War. Personally I believe the International system of analysis is the most accurate in describing the Spanish American War due to the enormous changes happening on American soil and around the world between the 1870 and 1900, from economic growth to colonial expansion. Competition among nations was at its peak and The U.S no matter what needed to ensure its place in the world, what best and easier occasion than to exploit the Spanish – Cuban conflict to their favor.
Doyle 1 Camp X greatly contributed to the allied victory of World War Two, Canadian history, and history in general as it was also the forerunner to the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). With Britain facing uncertainty in the war, Prime Minister Winston Churchill wanted something to be done fast to turn the war effort in their favor. Therefore the Canadians led by William Stephenson, who was a close ally to Churchill, created a secret military training base to prepare a new breed of soldier. Camp X was then born to gather intelligence to be used strategically towards the war effort. It was this factor that helped create the victory of D-Day and lead to the allied victory.
The reasons for the defeat of the Whites have long been a topic of debate. White historians have identified superior numbers of Red troops, as well as the Reds controlling 'most of the war industry, and most of the establishments and stores of the old imperial army and navy'. Conversely, Red historians have overestimated superior strategy as a cause of their victory. Even Trotsky admitted that '[although] we defeated our enemies, it cost us the greatest losses. We took too long over every battle, every war, every campaign'.
