English 1010: Composition & Rhetoric, Section 119807 Essay Assignment 1-Narrative Argument “How Online Education Is Changing My Life” During the fall of 2008, I had to make a decision to further my education and broaden my career path, or remain at a point in my life where, I was not living up to the skills, that I had. As always, I have believed that having an education was and continues to be the most vital decision anyone can make, if the student would like to be successful in his or her life. While I was being face with the chance to carry on my education, I had to take a look at all aspects of an education. I had to figure out if a traditional classroom setting or an online course would be more beneficial to my busy life and me. Even though the two different ways of obtaining an education are very similar, the teaching technique is slightly different.
Going to either traditional or online college is a big step in a student’s life, and teachers are there to help and guide them through any situations that arise. In a traditional school setting students are able to speak and interact with teachers, because they are present in the classroom. Students are able to ask questions about the class material or about help with homework if needed. The traditional setting students would get an immediate answer to the questions that they asked. In some cases students are able to understand course material and the hands on experience when they are face- face with the teacher.
All about Me Jennifer Webb COLL 100 I026 Fall 11 American Public University Eleanor Hewitt My name is Jennifer Webb and I am going to write an essay about why I decided to go back to school. I got tired trying to found a decent job, I wanted my daughters to follow in myself steps and go to college. I learned that most jobs are looking for some kind of college degree. I have been out of school for awhile and so I was a little nervous but after getting started I feel more comfortable with going to school. I want my daughters to always know that you can never get to old to learn new things.
It also has a very defined thesis statement at the beginning "Online courses are an excellent way for busy professionals to gain advanced training and certifications or switch career paths. They can also be very effective for first-time job seekers who need specialized training. However, before signing up, here are a few factors that can ensure an online student's success." It easily caught my attention to continue reading and also let me know what I am getting into before actually starting reading the essay; I call it a "Sneak Peak". In "A Soul as Free as the Air: About Lucy Stone" I felt this was a character study which focuses on a specific person of interest.
I made sure that I would have help around the house while I am going to school, then my oldest daughter told me that she would be so proud to see me succeed my goal. So I checked around for some colleges and I found Ashford University. Even though I will be doing my courses online I will still be a full-time student. I will be going to Ashford University for my Bachelors in Health Care
Classroom learning is better than online learning because you’re actually in a classroom with your teacher in front of you and you’re actually doing hands on work. When thinking about whether or not you want to attend an online college or actually attend a college close to home you want to think about the preparation time, place, lectures, study aids, group projects, class work, assignments, feedback, reading materials, learning, and additional aspects. When considering attending a classroom setting college the preparation time is very fast after you purchase your textbooks you are ready to attend class and participate as indicated by the syllabus. When taking classes you are scheduled for a set time and place for each class. When attending lectures they are usually presented to a group at the same time and it allows for immediate questions and changes.
One of the reasons I have had to postpone going back to school was that I wanted to be with my kids as much as possible. They all are in school now, and I have more time to devote to studying and doing homework. One of my personal short-term goals is that I want my three kids to see me graduating from college. When I graduated from nursing school, I only had my first daughter Arlette who was only a baby. I have all three of them with me now, and they are old enough to understand how important going to school is.
A decision that was difficult for me was choosing to pursue my Master’s degree through an online program, particularly, University of Phoenix. I had initially applied to a graduate program to study counseling at the university in my home town. I knew that the program was competitive and although I completed my undergraduate studies successfully, I did not graduate with a desirable GPA and I knew this would be an obstacle to entering a graduate program. I reviewed my situation, available options, chose, acted, and evaluated. I decided to apply to the local graduate school and worked closely with one of the professors and head of the counseling program.
When trying to compare online verse traditional education you really want to look at the many similarities and differences that benefit you as an individual. You really want to do as much research as possible before you make a final decision on what it is that you want to do. Either way you will get a college education with a degree under your belt. I want readers to learn and understand that no matter which one you choose to do, either way you will get the best education possible that is convenient for you. You don’t have to live up to the stereotypical everyday student and go to a traditional campus-based college; you have the option to do online schooling also.
