Online Versus Traditional Education Frederick Williams Everest Online Composition I -30 “Online Versus Traditional Education” I have always stressed to my girls that a solid educational foundation is necessary for them to be successful in life. I knew that in today’s world that having only a high school diploma would not be sufficient. If they were expected to be able to have a career, not simply a job, it was important that they receive some post high school training. Imagine how shocked I was when my oldest asked me why I did not take my own advice. My first reaction was to send her to her room, but she got me to thinking. It was time for me to practice what I had been preaching. I was working a full time job and had three girls that I was responsible for. I did not know how I would be able to attend college, but I knew that I had to set an example for my girls. I did some research and realized that online education made obtaining an advanced degree a definite possibility for me. Online education versus traditional classroom learning has its advantages and disadvantages. Availability of courses in the program study, convenience and interaction are areas that one must consider when deciding to choose traditional or online education. There is a big difference between the courses that can be taken in a traditional program and courses available online. Years ago when I first attended college, my major was physical therapy. I would have loved to continue in that same field. I searched extensively for an online program, but did not find one. I knew it was not practical to think that I could receive the training necessary to be an effective physical therapist online. Some things, you have to be in the classroom and have hands on training.
