Online shopping (E-shopping) is a form of electronic commerce which allows customers to buy goods or services from a seller on the Internet directly using a web browser. It was brought by an English entrepreneur Michael Aldrich in 1979. In 1980 he launched Redifon’s Office Revolution, which allowed customers, agents, distributors, suppliers and service companies to be connected on-line to the corporate systems and allowed business transactions to be completed electronically in real-time. Online shopping is experiencing a dramatic growth mainly in technologically advanced countries in recent years, but there are still many people who are afraid of making purchases online. Why are people afraid of online shopping? Here are some main e-commerce fears. * Fear of credit card information being stolen. As cases of credit card fraud and identity theft rise each year, online customers have valid reasons for being concerned that their information may be stolen. The chart above shows how identity theft affected shoppers’ online shopping behavior. There are 40% of shoppers state they would only purchase from well known shopping sites and 12% of shoppers indicate they would no longer shop online. The identity theft has seriously affected shoppers’ behavior. * They will sell my information A common fear is that once information is given for a purchase online, a bombarding of solicitation emails, catalogs, and offers from third parties will be sent. * Not being able to track orders The ability to track orders is becoming more popular among e-commerce retailers and shopper fears of losing an order and never seeing it again is common when a tracking service is not provided. * Can’t tell what the product is really like. Many shoppers rely on the sensory aspect of shopping and because they can’t feel, touch, or smell the product they become afraid of
