Attending class in person is beneficial because you have interaction with the instructor and other students. This allows you time to ask the professor questions with immediate response compared to online classes where you have to wait for a response back, which could take twenty-four hours. Unlike online classes, traditional classes require a lot of time and could cost more money to attend because of the maintenance that’s required, so the college can continue being operational. Commuting becomes an issue for everyone who attends traditional college. However, face to face interaction can encourage max participation and increase learning in a proper setting.
Classroom learning is better than online learning because you’re actually in a classroom with your teacher in front of you and you’re actually doing hands on work. When thinking about whether or not you want to attend an online college or actually attend a college close to home you want to think about the preparation time, place, lectures, study aids, group projects, class work, assignments, feedback, reading materials, learning, and additional aspects. When considering attending a classroom setting college the preparation time is very fast after you purchase your textbooks you are ready to attend class and participate as indicated by the syllabus. When taking classes you are scheduled for a set time and place for each class. When attending lectures they are usually presented to a group at the same time and it allows for immediate questions and changes.
A large concern to some students may have when considering attending college online is the fact that it may be harder to get personal help and learn the material through your professor. Without having any physical interaction with your professor, some hands on learners may struggle more than the students who learn well from reading the material on their own. The professor in online schools can still be very helpful; the students just have to take the initiative to ask for help when they need it. When attending a college on campus, some universities require their students to attend all classes, while others leave it as an option. It is
February 15, 2013 Exploratory Essay Composition I While I believe on ground learning is more structured and beneficial for some, online learning takes a lot of discipline and motivation to complete, because it can be very strict and distance and no set schedule. It can be very challenging, due to the fact that online learning requires students to participate a certain amount of hours or certain times per week. Online can be beneficial for working class people, or stay at home parents, because it allows the flexibility to attend at your own pace. My perception is that it can present many pitfalls and failures because it requires more discipline and commitment. For instance there may times when circumstances arise where you cannot participate
My personal learning style is Tactile and Kinesthetic. What that means is that I am a hands on kind of learner. I learn way better by moving around and touching stuff as opposed to reading, listening, and watching. This has been true about me my entire life as I have always learned more better by touching and working through items. Sometimes I try to switch it up to reading and watching, but I always seem to fail at that.
There is also the issue of support if you have a question or problem. This is especially difficult with school work. The instructors I have had have been very helpful in answering email questions, posted questions, or phone call question; however, more often than not there is a delay in response time. If you were at a brick and mortar university a simple hand in the air
The only difference with this is that in a traditional classroom it may be a little easier because you have that personal interaction with your instructor and your peers. In an online classroom it may be a little different because you can’t interact with your peers and instructors like you can if you were in a campus-based classroom, you have to e-mail them and wait for a response, and you won’t get it right then and there. In
Even though the two different ways of obtaining an education are very similar, the teaching technique is slightly different. To me online education has been one of the relaxed ways to get through many of my college classes. I can absorb what I want to learn whenever or wherever I would like. I began taking online classes because it was tough for me to meet the expense of daycare for my children, transportation to and from my school was hectic; and taking off from work or cutting my days and hours back was just not in my budget, just to attend a classroom lesson. I had many personal commitments to deal with on a regular basis that did not allow me to sit in a classroom for several hours.
By which I mean taking the time to organize a schedule that works for you, you don't need to burn every brain cell you have, to do this either. I like to set aside a few hours a day to actively study, or even just to simply brush up on something, I set a personal goal to learn something new everyday. Cramming for an upcoming test has been proven to be ineffective, while allowing for very short term recall, this keeps you from being able to remeber information you need on a long term basis. Another huge part of your Study Skills tool kit is taking notes, with the way in which you choose to do so having a large impact
When it comes to communication online learning now has the opportunities for instant communication such as message boards, online chatting, and even video conferencing, but this does not replace the experience of face to face interaction. Students who enjoy having ideas exchanges between the professor and other classmates will prefer the classroom environment to online courses. For many students social interaction is a key aspect of college life. Some students need to have the professor in front of them and classmates around them. While other students work better independently, the thing about online learning is that it’s offered all over the world so that you as an online student maybe be
