Suliman Olayan started his journey with his elder brother when they crossed the Arabian Gulf to Bahrain. In Bahrain 1928, he started his educational journey by joining an American school where he learned English language. In that time, Suliman Olayan skills has been improved with the great knowledge that he had gained and made him analyze and see things as they could be. In 1936, he worked for Bahrain Petroleum Company. After that he joined the Aramco forerunner company (California Arabian Standard Oil Company). In the era of World War II, the oil industry was expanding which gave Suliman the opportunity to establish General Contracting Company (GCC). Bechtel was the first customer of GCC. This made the reputation of Sulaiman to rise up to the sky because of ARAMCO Tapline project which Bechtel was the responsible company to manage the construction of that project. Sulaiman Olayan had proven that he was a dependable contractor who delivered high quality of work.
