Essay #1 Obesity in America

Obesity in America has become one of the biggest problems to affect people in the United States. I believe that there are three factors to blame for the high rate of obesity. The first factor would be that individuals can choose what to eat. Second would be the food companies that make the unhealthy food. Third would be the government for having taxes that cause people to buy the least expensive foods.
Individuals can choose what to eat, and eating fast food on a daily basis is not a good idea to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is up to the individuals to make smarter and healthier choices when they decide to eat out at fast food places. Just because you eat out at these fast and convenient places, doesn’t mean you have to eat the unhealthiest items on the menu. A lot of fast food places have a few healthier alternatives on the menu and it is the individual's own responsibility if they choose to eat food that is more on the unhealthy side.
As for the food companies, they are equally just as responsible as the individuals who choose to eat unhealthy food. The food company are the ones who make unhealthy food in the first place with all their over-processed food, and unhealthy additives they put in their food. They offer inexpensive food to the public, which makes it very easy for people to want to buy it. Families with children and hectic schedules are more likely to be the ones to opt to buy fast food to feed their children.
And lastly, the government is also responsible for the growing problem with obesity because they keep raising the taxes on everything, which makes it hard for families to buy the proper food necessary to feed their children. With that being done, people will resort to buying cheaper food that is not good for you. This can result in people gaining weight if they continue to eat it on a regular basis. If the government would cut back on the taxes, maybe every American could afford to buy...
