CU297P/CT297 Principles of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Adult Social Care Setting 1.1 Define what is meant by: * Diversity * Equality * Inclusion * Discrimination Diversity - is meant by acknowledging that each individual is unique and recognising individual differences, For example culture, ability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other individual characteristic. Equality - is fair treatment and access opportunities for all regardless of differences like their ability, culture, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other group characteristic. Inclusion - is to embrace all people regardless of race, gender, age, ability etc. its about recognising that we are one and not all the same and to have a sense of belonging. Discrimination - is an unfair or unequal treatment of an individual or group on the grounds of age, gender, ability, race etc. its being disadvantaged or excluded in the same situation. 1.2 Describe how direct or indirect discrimination may occur in the work setting Direct discrimination may occur if an employee is not considered for a promotion because of age or a job is refused to a person because of their disability.
