Introduction: In this assignment i will be explaining my own views and attitude againt diversity, and how it could impact on work with young children and young people. Assessment Criteria 2.3 In my own opinion everyone has different kinds of opinions and values than to others. When you work with children from a young age. You start to realize that it's not always needed for you to be aware of them. So say if you act out on these attitudes, it could have a bad effect on the children your working with and other children they might know, and you would not want them to copy your own actions in a result.
1.1 Explain what it means to have a duty of care in own work role To meet the individuals’ needs (hunger, warmth, shelter, mobility) in a safe environment whilst respecting their human rights. 1.2 Explain how duty of care contributes to the safeguarding or protection of individuals Our duty of care involves protecting individuals from harm as a result of outsiders (strangers), other potential threats within the environment (potentially threatening carers and residents) and from harm to themselves. Any indication of such failures in that individual’s care must be notified to management immediately. 2.1 Describe potential conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between the duty of care and an individual’s rights If an individual refuses personal care for an extensive period of time we are failing our duty of care to maintain the person’s hygiene however by forcing the issue we would be denying the individual of their human rights and freedom of choice especially if they are capable of making their own decisions. 2.2 Describe how to manage risks associated with conflicts or dilemmas between an individual’s rights and the duty of care Speak with the manager to implement protocols in regards to the situation.
Outcome 2 Know how to address conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between an individual’s rights and the duty of care 1 Sometimes individuals may want to do something which could be a risk to their Health and safety. As a carer you have a duty of care to that person and you must do all that you can to keep them safe but you also have a duty to respect the individuals rights and choice, so you have a dilemma. It could be that the individual no longer wishes to use her walking frame, but her care plan states that she needs it to move from place to place and you are to ensure you encourage it’s use. In this scenario you could carry out a risk assessment to ensure that it is managed as safely as possible. 2 There are many ways to manage risks associated with conflicts and dilemmas:- * Allowing individuals to explore with guidance, * Making individuals aware of potential hazards and dangers, * Allowing individuals to acquire life skills through learning how to cope with risky situations, * Staff ignorance, * Parents are a risk to staff if reported to social services.
Such as, if a child needs additional support from other professionals, you would help this child by contacting the certain professionals, if you suspect a child to be in a situation that risks their safety, an adult has disclosed information that may raise concerns over their ability to carry out daily duties in the setting. 4. Always seek advice from the manager. This is very important because if someone has asked you to keep something confidential in the workplace and you are worried about the information you have been given, you should always do this in an area where nobody can overhear what you are saying. It’s better to seek advice verbally rather than using communication such as email, which other people could access.
They can quickly fall behind from peers of the same age. They may find it difficult to interact and make friends with others who are more advanced. They may struggle with intellectual development memory and concentration. Delayed speech development A child who has limited or no speech could be a cause great concern. This would affect a child’s social and communication development as he/she would find it difficult to listen and speak to peers staff and carers this could also affect their behaviour possibly becoming frustrated and quite angry Whatever concern you have about a Childs development in any area, you should always share it with others.

It includes watching out for potential hazards and trying to prevent mistakes and accidents. It is important because of a duty of care is not met then the responsible person can be held accountable if things go wrong. A carer in early years has a duty of care to protect the children in their care by following the legislation and the policies and procedures that are in place at the workplace. Policies and procedures are put in place so that there are rules and boundaries to make sure that people know how to work in the setting and what is expected of them to prevent harm and danger to others in the work setting.
For the purposes of this assignment a child is a person under the age of 18 years as defined in the Children (NI) Order 1995. Throughout this assignment the term he, him should also mean she, her etc. The policies, procedures and practices to safeguard children should be based on the following principles: • The child’s welfare must always be paramount and this overrides all other considerations: • Children have the right to be heard, listened to and their concerns to be taken seriously. Taking in to consideration their age and understanding they should be consulted and involved in decisions that may affect their lives; • Parents/ Carers have the right to be respected and they should be consulted in matters which concern their families. • Individuals and agencies should work together so that the best interests of the child are met; • Actions taken to protect children, including investigation, should not cause the child unnecessary distress; The Legislative context which children are protected includes: United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
Another barrier could be lack of staff. This limits them as if there is not many staff available to supervise the children then this could limit their choices. If some children want to go outside and some want to stay inside, but there are no staffs available then this means that either all children have to go out or all children have to stay in. Teaching personal hygiene can affect the practitioners as they may not have the access to soaps/hand washes. This means that
1.2 Explain how duty of care contributes to the safeguarding of individuals. All workers in a childcare setting have a ‘duty of care’ to protect both children and other co-workers. Duty of care means that a person or group has a responsibility to ensure that there is reasonable standard of attention and care given to avoid neglect which may lead to or cause harm to others. It is important to excersice duty of care, especially in young children to help them to develop immune systems which can protect them from childhood illness and other diseases, which may cause them harm ot disable them later in life. Children develop the ability to see potential dangers and learn how to deal with them.
