Introduction
A good diet should include a variety of foods that meet the nutritional requirements for an individual's health and well being. In order to achieve this, food needs to be consumed from each of the five food groups: vegetables and legumes/beans; grains which include, cereals, breads, rice, pasta, noodles; lean meat, poultry, fish and eggs, nuts and seeds, and legumes/beans; fruit; and dairy products including milk, yoghurt and cheese as mentioned in the AGTHE guidelines (2011). Failure to meet these requirements can lead to multiple health issues ranging from cardiac problems to obesity. The use of a dietary plan can provide assistance in obtaining and maintaining these nutritional levels, and therefore able to stay within the ranges of meeting an individual’s requirement to ensure optimal health benefits. As mentioned, The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (AGTHE) provides a visual guide of the recommended daily intake and provides dietary information on which daily foods to consume. This information is able to assist with food selection, and also helps with the vital inclusion of essential nutrients without providing excess kilojoules (Whitney et al. 2011).
                        Case studies identify specific characteristics which are observed and have no significant value unless compared analytically (Thomas 2011).
