How does society see Nursing Students and Nurses?
Nurses have a tremendous impact on society every day, sometimes good and also sometimes bad. I am currently a nursing student so I decided to do some research on how society sees the nursing community. Nurses have to have skill, patience and dedication, and the memes I am getting information from sometimes go against that idea. Not only did I pick this topic because I am myself a nursing student, but I also picked it because I'm interested in the stereotypes that are brought about from memes on the internet. From my own experience, when I have been asked what I’m going to school for and I say nursing, I sometimes get hit with stereotypes myself, so I thought this topic would be perfect. I did my own research as well as secondary research to see if others perceive this topic the same way that I do. Today, nurses are in high demand but according to an article written by Robert Rosseter, the Registered Nursing workforce is the top occupation in terms of job growth through 2020. It is expected that the number of employed nurses will grow from 2.74 million in 2010 to 3.45 million in 2020, an increase of 712,000 or 26% (NursingShortage, Rosseter 2014). Gender roles and sexualization of both male and female nurses seem to have more extensive secondary information than other topics I’m working on, but I myself did not see that much about the sexualization of nurses in my primary research.

I was more specific in one case and typed in stereotypes of male verses female nurses to get in to my research on gender roles. Other than Google, I did use another website to research memes. The other website I used was www.affordablenursingschools.com. They had...
