“Nuclear Medicine Technologist” The reason I have chosen this career, is because the medical world is growing in an alarming rate. The new world of nuclear medicine is starting to get its hype today. I found that this career has benefits to it, the benefit of helping others who have disabilities or illnesses. The job is accepted anywhere in Canada or places who accepts CAMRT. The people who have chosen this career will have to be ready at any time for right away calls. What you need to obtain this career is very time consuming. To start off the education process you will need a high school diploma, with a minimum of five universities preparatory courses at the grade 12 level. Post-secondary education must require a GPA of 2.75 out of 4.30, and obtain a grade no lower than a “C” in these courses. To study Nuclear Medicine you will need the following courses Math, English, Physics, and in Chemistry. In any of these courses can’t be below 70% and an overall average of 75%. As for certification, graduates must write national registration exams and meet the clinical competency requirements as set by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) in order to practice. When they have passed their exam, they are now entitled to use "Registered Technologist in Nuclear Medicine" (RTNM). All of this was provided from Dalhousie University website. Nuclear medicine technologists carry out diagnostic imaging and some treatment procedures in hospitals or private medical clinics. They acquire images that help pinpoint the nature of a disease and how it is affecting the body. Their work also enables doctors to monitor a patient's response to treatment. Some of the main uses of nuclear medicine include: • Evaluating coronary disease • Studying how the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys and other organs are functioning • Determining the location of tumors
