Plus, a stressful family environment may cause a child to experience learning disabilities and possibly be of a high risk of a stress related illness. At the same time, various other elements within a child’s background may affect behaviour and development, these being; divorce, a new baby, diet, poverty and media to mention a few. Children of one parent families may suffer as the parent may work long hours leaving the child with very little support and possibly no role model to look up to. Divorce also can be very traumatic for a child. Children whose families have joined with another family and therefore have ‘step-family’ may experience unhappiness due to the child being picked on or feeling left out, this would lead to low self-esteem and they would quite possibly result in lack confidence in their own abilities.

In my opinion the ideal family is a group of people that have emotional, blood, or legal ties. The ideal family to me includes a monogamous marriage between two adults who are socially and financial dependent. These adults should also care for young including biological children, adopted children, or mentoring for disadvantaged children. I can only wish that what I have already instilled in my two children is a reflection of myself as a parent.
The relationship with parents/carers is the first and most important relationship in a child’s life.They need to have a strong bond or attachment to their primary carers to feel loved and secure. Parents are a childs first teachers so they build the basis for the development. It is important that the child is praised for their actions and not criticised to help build their self esteem and self worth. It is important for children and young people to have friends as they learn social skills that will be important to them throughout their lives. These skills can be vital to maintaining social relationships and help them be able to resolve conflict.
Some people’s physical and mental abilities deteriorate faster than others’. This does not mean that the elderly population does not deserve respect. I am not biased toward the elderly. When I take care of my patients, whether my patients are elderly, homeless, or alcoholic, I always see myself in them and think that I will be in that bed one day. I also believe that family members should support their elderly parents or grandparents because when they were young, the elderly were the ones who care for them; so, now it is their responsibility to care for the elderly.
