Northlake Case Study Synopsis: Amalgamated Forest Products Vice President Jim McIntosh and the company’s manager of corporate reporting, Frank are discussing issues over a financial report. Jim learned from another employee, Tina that Frank wishes to make the report public knowledge, because he feels it is inadequate. Tina Pacquette is the manager of financial analysis that produced the report and, a long time employee that is noted for not having “a cordial work relationship with Frank” (Hellriegel, & Slocum, 2008, p.221). Her report suggests the company will endure a high percentage of cost increases if it meets the demands of the legislative committee. Frank feels it is misleading because it does not have factual information and must be revaluated. Jim does not agree with Frank on the issue and is very hostile towards him and berates and belittles him during their conversation. Jim leaves John to consult with the companies President Jean Letourneau. Frank has been with Amalgamated Forest Products for ten years. He has been able to work his way up to his current position. Frank has a sense of loyalty to the company and is a long standing member of the community. Additionally, he has been able to obtain a (Certified Management Accountants) CMA and further his education with the assistance of the company and from having John McIntosh as a mentor. Amalgamated Forest Products corporate office is located in the small town of Northlake. The company has recently been taken over by another company headed out of Chicago. The company operates three of the five paper mills in the surrounding province. A government proposal has forced the company to address the issue of having “effluent controls on the discharge of wastewater from pulp and paper mills in environmentally sensitive regions of the province” (Hellriegel, & Slocum, 2008, p. 221).
