Abstract Nonverbal communication has a tremendous impact in our daily business lives, whether we realize it or not. We must strive to understand, and utilize, the finer points of kinesics, and proxemics in order to avoid offending any current, or future, clients. Additionally, we, as business people must be vigilant when we use electric communication in our business, and personal, lives. While texting and emailing are extremely easy to use, they are equally as prone to accidental misuse through incorrect nonverbal procedures. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of the word, etiquette, is “the code of ethical behavior regarding professional practice or action among the members of a profession, in their dealings with each other”. (Dictionary.com, 2012) With that in mind, there are many aspects of our business lives in which we must take care to observe proper decorum, else we be labeled as rude or unprofessional. There are some situations in which we don't even have to actually, physically, speak to be misunderstood. This occurs mostly in the area of nonverbal communications. Physical actions, body language, and electronic transmissions are included in this broad term of nonverbal communications. Scientifically, kinesics is the term used to describe physical nonverbal communications, also known as body language. In many situations, kinesics can express our feelings more aptly than actual words. In fact, science has proven that 70% of what we say doesn't come from our vocal chords. Actually, when investigated further, in an average speech transmission, 55% of the impact/understanding of the message comes from body language, 38% is ascertained from the actual verbal communication, and a mere 7% from the actual content of the transmission.
