Non-Employment Conflict Management Charlie University of Phoenix MMPBL540: Conflict Management April 27, 2009 Non-Employment Conflict Management Any organization involved in dam building is at risk of being involved in conflicts resulting from the impact of constructing dams on rivers or tributaries. People and special interest groups representing people or other resources bring up issues creating conflicts in efforts to block dam construction. The dam builder organization addressed in this paper will face some of those potential conflicts, and must be prepared to take steps to deal with the conflicts. This paper will address some potential non-organizational conflicts a dam building company can expect to face as the organization moves forward with plans formulated in an approved public policy allowing construction of hydropower producing dams in the Wamayo River Basin. There will be a discussion about some alternate dispute resolution techniques to reduce the risk of the potential conflicts, present a plan for alternatives, and recommend metrics for gauging the effectiveness of the plan. Following is a compilation of some of these potential non-organizational conflicts. Potential Non-Organizational Conflict Identifications Constructing hydropower producing dams in the Wamayo River Basin can have numerous advantages to the region ranging from lower cost electric utilities for the area which will may attract new industry to creating reservoirs that will hold ample water resources to support a growing agricultural industry. One of the most obvious conflicts that the construction of dams in the area raises is the impact that the dams will have on the salmon population that uses the Wamayo River Basin and its tributaries for spawning purposes. The potential impact of additional dams on the area will be the blockage of salmon migration during their spawning
