MM Summer Program 2014 Practice Case 1: No Room at the Top by: Group 3 Bayubay, Genevie Vanessa L. Domingo, Kenneth Lissy T. Guerta, Christian Q. Javier, Normilyn P. Mercurio, Flora P. Ralda, Melinda Salac, John Michael V. Point of View: The case will be taken from the point of view of Lewis Latimer, the said supervisor of the Special Test Operations. This is so because Lewis has both direct contacts with both his superior, Frank Duncan and the technicians. His span of contacts is wide enough to tackle this case. Statement of the Problem: With the mentality of being in the class A position as a dead-end for their career has demotivated not only the class A technicians but the other technicians as well, what action should Lewis take in order to regain the motivation and the positive attitude of the technicians towards their work? Alternatives: 1. Provide Additional Incentives Involves monthly and yearly performance appraisals complemented with rewards such as “Employee of the Month/Year” incentives. Pros:  It will serve as an ego boost for the technicians and improve their attitude.  This will be beneficial since it alleviates the “dead-end” mentality of the technicians. Since every month a new technician will be commended. Cons:  This will mean moderate additional cost for the company brought by the additional pay.  Time consuming since monthly performance appraisal will require a more in-depth evaluation of employees and development of appraisal systems. 2. Provide Training and Development programs Involves a set of programs such as apprenticeship sessions with other departments, training workshops, and schooling assistance that could widen their knowledge which in turn, opens him/her up to opportunities. Pros:  Increase productivity with new skills acquired by the employees.  Gives the employee a positive viewpoint
