Difficult Decisions While reading No Impact Man there were a lot of changes that Colin Beaven and his family made throughout the course of a year. Some of these included giving up toilet paper, only eating local foods, getting rid of their television, and only taking the stairs. The lifestyle change made by Colin Beaven, his wife Michelle and daughter Isabella that I think would be the most difficult for myself would be using non-carbon producing transportation. In today’s society, it is almost impossible to get anywhere without a car, bus, airplane or some other sort of vehicle transportation. I know that to get to school I had to take the bus or drive because it was too far away from my house.
After reading the article, named “The Truth about Lying” by Judith Viorst, I was wondering whether these lie is a protective lie or a trust-keeping lie. I tell this kind of lie not to protect myself because I know she won’t scold me or give me any punishment for being late. I tell these lie to keep my mother away from worrying about me. Again, my mother trusts me a lot. She believes that I can never lie to her, I can never do anything wrong behind her back.
I disagree completely that we as Americans suffer from lack of information about nutrition in fast food. Every capable adult knows that eating anything in a fast food restaurant is bad for you. They need to stop being lazy and letting their kids eat fast food frequently, especially if their kids are not very active. It is the responsibility of the parents to feed their kids three healthy meals a day and to make sure that they are maintaining a healthy diet. I do not believe that if fast food industries started putting nutrition labels on their food that it would have a significant difference on the amount of food that people eat.
Instead most people blame the fast food companies. In the article “Its Portion Distortion” by Shannon Brownlee it is portion sizes and the lack of nutritional guides that are the cause of obesity. While some people may believe that is true I have no idea how to read a nutritional guide and I was taught as I was growing up that fast food is bad for your health. For example the movie “Super Size me” was made to warn people about the dangers of eating nothing but fast food. My family eats out only once or twice a week and the other days we eat home cooked meals.
Although, I have been eating healthier, they are still far from perfect. The other difference is that I do exercise daily. I do try to eat healthy everyday, and let me tell you it’s very easy to go the McDonalds route. I tried to starve myself for long periods without any food consumption. That was not a good thing to do because it affected my metabolism and energy.
Chevy You might think I’m referring to a car or a truck, but Chevy is a dog. He is a big part of my life; I didn’t get him when he was puppy. I didn’t even name him; I obtained him at the age of 4 in 2006. His original name was Pee Wee, and the people I got him from didn’t like Pee Wee so they changed it to Chevy. He is a Belgian Malinois, which is a type of shepherd.
In Dead End Kids by Michele Manges, she talks about how every teenager who works in fast food; also known as a “Mcjob†is setting themselves up for a job that is only wasting their time. A Mcjob only uses skills that a person already knows just from common sense. Michele argues that teenagers are overworked and the fact that most are asked to work late hours, means less sleep and no time for homework. Teenagers can only do so much while they’re in school. They have assignments to worry about, and they are supposed to be able to enjoy the time the have to socialize and be young.
Not just of the breeding dogs in the farm but most of their puppies as well. As cute as the puppy in the pet shop may seem you should always buy from a proper breeder or an animal shelter this way you will know that you are not contributing towards puppy mills and killing innocent dogs. This is one dog that was lucky enough to be saved from a puppy
For my social norm breakage, I decided it would be interesting to walk an invisible dog. I borrowed my friend’s dog’s leash. Then later on that afternoon I went to a dog park and noticed many people playing and running with their dogs. At first I was quite nervous because I thought I might not be able to pull it off but then I just started to act like I had a dog and it was sitting beside me. I started to talk to ‘my dog’ named brownie and I was basically just petting the air.
Even though Ismene didn’t help out with the crime she still wanted to risk her life for Antigone, but she wouldn’t let her because she didn’t do the work. Antigone wants to die for the right reason, that she did something right for someone else. But since Ismene didn’t do any of the crime she didn’t want her to die because she did something wrong. Antigone wanted Ismene to live and she descried to live she didn’t do anything wrong. I think Ismene changed her mid because Antigone is her sister and you always stand up for family.
