Jon Holtzman`s ethnography, “ Neur Journeys Nuer Lives: Sudanese Refugees in Minnesota is book based on the migration of the Neur people from Sudan to the United States. These people have moved from a very traditional lifestyle into the melting pot of the States which is a very difficult transition. One would think that these individuals would have extreme nationalism, but when one`s nation is at war nationalism goes down the drain and it comes down to survival and adapting to a different culture. Cultural conflicts are a possibility in this move and references will be used from “ Understanding Cultural Globalization” by Paul hopper in order to make more sense of this transition of the Nuer people from their native Sudan to Minnesota. Holtzman states “ I worked with a group of American teens in developing a friendship/mentoring program with Nuer children and youth”(103). This is an interesting venture by Holtzman because he tries to bring two cultures together without there being a cultural conflict between the two groups. Nevertheless he was victorious in this attempt to bring the two ethnic groups together by playing music and allowing them to not be different ethnicities but to be normal children just having plain fun without any interruptions. Cultural conflicts are not always present in todays society because of the vast globalization that has occurred over the last 100 years. There can be differences between people but then again there are differences in a person`s family so there are chances of a people being rude to one another but that is not an entire culture acting, that is just an ignorant individual who needs guidance. In contrast to this attempt by Holtzman to bring two groups together Hopper adds “ however, as well as contributing to the development of multicultural societies, the process of globalization can serve to
