1, 2, Societal attitudes and beliefs can impact individuals with sensory loss in quite a negative way because people in society can be very judgmental towards people with disabilities, and put them in a group of people with below average intelligence and assume they can’t do or think the same way as other people without disabilities can. People in society can also be very prejudice and ignorant and think they are better than people with sensory loss, also thinking it gives them the right to make fun at them and making life difficult in the process. Although not all people think the same way there are many other people in society that are very open towards individuals with disabilities and sensory loss and can be very helpful and kind, this can have a positive impact on people’s lives. 1, 3, There are a range of factors that societal attitudes and beliefs impact on service provisions, discrimination is one of the biggest problem in today’s society , people with sensory loss are treated differently, and there a lot of barriers that need to be overcome, service provision is a term used to describe a wide range of activities, including the provision of assistive devices, rehabilitation services, occupational therapy and health services. The experience of multiculturalism allows an individual to open his or her mind to accepting an opportunity to learn about other people and his or her way of living. The experience of other cultures helps one to understand and teaches tolerance of others. However, this can also impact others in a negative way. One major disadvantage to multiculturalism is the division that it can create in a society. This may cause one group to form prejudices and stereotypes about other cultures that exist in his or her environment.
Our lives melting into one another.” What a beautiful way to put it. In an article, I found on Cultural Survival where an interview took place with a Historian (Schlesinger). He states that the reason the Unites States vast multicultural society has worked for over centuries is due to overriding the conception of an American nationality. American citizenship has not only been enriched by strangers from different countries, but it has been transformed. America once a racist country that was initially run by white settlers who felt subgroups should be enslaved to do peon labor.
When ethnocentrism is present, it has the affect of having people sort out members of society by group lines, usually by using an easily identifiable characteristic (skin tone) into "us" and "them". But Noel cautions that ethnocentrism by itself is not enough to cause ethnic stratification. There exist historical examples of groups with ethnocentric beliefs that lived side by side in peace. A second condition cited by Noel that is needed for ethnic stratification is competition. Competition is where there is a struggle for scare resources which could include anything from land, labor, jobs, and housing to educational opportunities.
Sometimes it can cause a person to lose their sense of purpose in this world and forgetting that God put us all here for a reason. Some people also tend to believe that if you don’t fit in with society that you are not “normal”, the crazy thing is some people are built to not fit in, and we as people have to learn to accept that. Both of these stories ended in misfortune. The society that surrounds you can cause you to blind yourself with the need to fit in which can and will cause an identity issue, but we have to figure is do we have more Evil in us than

When we begin to understand the world around us, the people in it and their values, one can begin to feel a sense of belonging. However, due to the fact that the concept of belonging is dynamic one can also possess a lack of understanding and this often becomes a barrier to becoming accepted in a group or community. In the Immigrant Chronicle by Feliks Skrzynecki the concept of migrants moving from one country to another is explored and thus when they arrive at their new country they lack a sense of understanding.
If individuals were to resist by complaining there would be a possibility that they could be displaced. Neighbors do not always get along whether it is because of race or ethnicity but when it comes to a person’s home being threaten the mind set of ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ seems like it would be instinctive but “race and ethnicity, rather than presenting a unifying advantage, can sometimes present an added challenge for [those] facing gentrification” (Kirkland, 24 citing Betancur).
