Smoking is responsible for many diseases such as cancer, long term chronic lung disease, heart attack and premature death. Over 440,000 people die each year because of smoking. CDC states that 90% of the people admitted for lung diseases as a result of smoking. Scientists states that there are over 4,000 compounds in cigarette smoke. Bladder cancer Kidney cancer, Cancers of the pharynx and larynx (throat cancer), Mouth cancer, Esophagus cancer, Cancer of the pancreas, Stomach cancer, Some types of leukemia, Cancer of the nose and sinuses, Cervical cancer, Bowel cancer, Ovarian cancer and breast cancer Three main components in tobacco smoking are Nicotine: is not carcinogenic but it is very addictive. One of the reason smokers find it hard to quit because of the nicotine in the body. It is said that nicotine reaches brain in about 15 seconds of inhalation. If tobacco didn’t contain nicotine, many people would have found it easy to quit and Tobacco Company would have shut down. Nicotine is very addictive and sufficient amounts can lead to vomiting, seizures, depression, damages to CNS and growth retardation. Carbon Monoxide: is a poisonous gas that is inhaled while smoking. Carbon Monoxide does not have any taste or smell. Let me ask you, how many of your homes have carbon monoxide detectors? Well even if you don’t, it is required for every house by law. Why is it a law because Carbon Monoxide is poisonous gas? Did you know that if there is enough CO around you and you inhale it, you can go coma and can die. Inhaling Carbon Monoxide can also cause fatigue, weakness and dizziness. Tar: Tar consists of several cancer causing chemicals. When inhaling smoke, 70% of the tar remains in lungs.
