Nature Vs. Nurture Clay Ballinger 1A In the never ending nature versus nurture debate, nature refers to the traits or thoughts that come with the human thought process from the start and nurture comes from the teaching and learning process from the parents, school, and home/ neighboring environment. The debate is the scientific, cultural, and philosophical debate about whether human culture, behavior, and personality are caused primarily by “nature” or “nurture.”The debate will always have a number of opinions on either side and will never come to an agreement. Although the nature seems to be the favoring side I believe nurture has the more convincing role in the life of a child/ young adult. When you apply life lessons and teachings to a young child they will remember those teaching for their entire life. They will mimic their parents and other children they see around them and develop their own life style and thought process. Minor details stick with them and they start to create their own personality. Nurture refers to personal experiences. Nurture refers to your childhood, or how you were brought up. Someone could be born with genes to give them a normal height, but be malnourished in childhood, resulting in stunted growth and a failure to develop can occur. Nurture factors that trigger an individual to commit crime or simply decide their attitude and way of dealing with situations are influences by social and environmental factors. Children learn off discipline. If they do something morally wrong or something in general that their parents don’t find acceptable in their eyes they scold them and/ or punish them so they don’t make the same mistake again. This can range from eating habit to how to behave in front of new guests. Like how your parents have taught you to chew with your mouth closed for example, you are nurtured to have manners and be
